Luxury Autumn Flowers: Dressing a London Home for the Season
Autumn is the season London does best. The light goes gold by four, the squares turn copper, and the city moves indoors to dinners and long evenings. Flowers for this time of year should do the same: warmer, deeper, and more generous than the pale arrangements of summer.
Here is how we think about autumn flowers, and the pieces we make for it. Everything is made by hand on the morning of delivery, from flowers chosen that day, and delivered across London when ordered by 10pm the evening before.
The autumn palette
Three families of colour carry the season. Amber and orange are the obvious ones, and the most cheerful; they suit a kitchen, a hallway, or a gift to someone who needs lifting. Burgundy and plum are richer and more formal, right for a dining table, a study, or an anniversary. Cream and gold are the quiet option, for interiors that are already full of colour and want flowers that calm rather than compete.
The trick, in a home, is to pick one family and commit. A single deep burgundy box on a console does more than three small arrangements in competing shades.
Amber and orange
“Maple Syrup” – £440
Oranges and deep reds with flashes of green and yellow in our signature velvet box. One of our statement pieces, and the box we send most often for autumn birthdays.
“Autumn Delight” – £360
Orange and deep red softened with blush. A little gentler than “Maple Syrup”, and a good first autumn box for someone who usually prefers pink.
“Pumpkin Spiced” – £380
Warm, spiced tones for the kitchen table or the first cold evening in.
“Peachy” – £220
Bright orange tones at a friendlier scale. The box to send with a thank-you.
Burgundy and plum
“Burgundy” – £430
Burgundy through and through. Formal, rich, and the box we recommend for an autumn anniversary.
“Autumn Splendour” – £650
Fiery orange, deep burgundy and purple on a grand scale. For an entrance hall, a hotel suite, or the host who deserves the most.
“Mirage” – £600
Red and orange with an air of the drawing room about it. A piece for the home rather than a gift box, though it makes a remarkable one.
Cream and gold
“Crème de la Crème” – £450
Autumn hues on a cream base: the quiet, expensive-looking option for interiors that already have plenty going on.
“Orange Spice” – £450
Orange and burgundy in a gold ceramic vase, so it arrives ready for the table and stays there. Available with or without pumpkins.
Hand-tied bouquets
For those who like to arrange their own: “Harvest Moon” blends warm, rich tones; “Amber Allure” moves from maroon through orange to yellow; “Fall'ing For You” is the softest of the three. Each comes in four sizes from £175.
A few notes on autumn flowers at home
- Keep them away from radiators. The season's first blast of central heating is harder on flowers than any summer afternoon. A hallway or a cool corner of the sitting room suits them best.
- Dim light is fine. Autumn arrangements are chosen for depth of colour, not for sun, and they hold their own by lamplight.
- Change the water in boxed pieces every two days with a small jug poured directly into the foam; a little goes a long way.
- For a dinner, order for the morning of the day before. Autumn flowers open slowly, and a day in the room lets them settle.
